ECHS splits against Hillcrest

Escambia County High School’s basketball teams split their games against visiting Hillcrest-Evergreen on Saturday night.
The Lady Devils earned a 46-31 win over the Lady Jags, while the ECHS boys fell by the score of 53-36.
John’nes Robinson scored 19 points to lead the Lady Devils (12-4) to the victory Saturday. Christin Simpkins added nine points and Nicole Johnson scored eight for ECHS.
The Lady Devils led 7-4 after one quarter, 22-11 at halftime, and 32-23 after three quarters.
In the boys game, the Blue Devils fell behind 8-0 early before coming back to cut the halftime lead to 23-19. However, ECHS’s offense slowed down in the second half as the Blue Devils lost at home.
“It was an offensive struggle for us,” ECHS boys coach Terrence Walker said. “Nothing was falling.”
Four players scored six points to lead the Blue Devils (11-12). They were Anthony Fountain, Tristen Knott, Devon Robinson and Darian Staples. Devante Lee added five points and Malik McMillan scored four.
ECHS also hosted Vigor on Tuesday, Jan. 13. The Lady Devils won 56-49, and the Blue Devils lost 66-55.
