Kevin Dewayne Lewis

Mr. Kevin Dewayne Lewis, 43, of Atmore, answered the Master’s call on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at Memorial Hospital of Carbon County in Rawlins, Wyo., while traveling across the country working on his job.

A native of Atmore, Kevin lived in Detroit, Mich., for many years and was a 1990 graduate of MacKenzie High School in Detroit. He had a love for commercial truck driving and was an excellent driver. He had driven for several companies, but presently he was driving for Swift Transportation Corporation, headquartered in Phoenix, Ariz.

He was a member of New Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He loved and provided well for his family and in his leisure, he enjoyed driving and wrestling.

As he begins his walk with God in the Illustrious city called Heaven, he will join his father, William Lewis, Jr.; two grandmothers, Ida Mae Bonner and Lucille Lewis and a nephew, Jamelle Lewis.

Those left to cherish his love and life are his wife, Shekethia (Shay) Lewis of Pensacola, Fla.; two sons, Tyreck Lewis and Jabrile Lewis, both of Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Moreletha Lewis of Inkster, Mich.; his mother, Vernonia Lewis of Detroit; one brother, Keith Hines of Atmore; two sisters, Latoya Lewis of Lavonia, Mich., and Yanell Lewis of Southfield, Mich.; one granddaughter, Aminna Lewis of Inkster; his grandfather, William Lewis Sr. of Atmore; one niece, Samantha Hines of Detroit; three nephews, Ceishaun Hines of Detroit, Marlon Carter and Landen Lee Ridley, both of Southfield; one devoted great aunt, Rosie Wallace of Atmore; his special love, Marvette Askew of Atmore; three God sisters, Thoris “LuLu” Hamed of Bowie, Md., Tiffiane Anderson of Philadelphia, Pa. and Katrina Breakfield of Detroit, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. from Empowerment Christian Center with the Rev. Harold Askew, pastor of New Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, eulogist and Overseer Darryl North, Gracious Host.

Inhumation will be in the Fairview Cemetery. His body will lie in state at the church for two hours prior to the funeral service with the family receiving friends from 1 pm until funeral service time at the church with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC, directing.
