The city of Atmore has received a $1.84 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration, to be used for repairs at the Atmore Municipal Airport.
Officials with the U.S. Department of Transportation and the office of U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne announced the grant award Monday afternoon. It includes $573,641 in entitled funding, as well as another $1,270,000 in discretionary funding, for a total grant amount of $1,843,641.
The grant will fund the overly of 4,952 feet of the existing Runway 18/36 pavement, which has reached the end of its useful life. It will also fund grading improvements to the Runway 18/36 safety areas, to meet Federal Aviation Administration design standards and improve safety at the airport.
