Plans are in the works to secure an estimated $200,000 grant for a new welding facility at Jefferson Davis Community College’s Atmore campus.
“Welding is one of the largest growing areas in workforce development,” said Will Ruzic with Costal Gateway Regional Economic Development Alliance, the group that works to market and promote the assets of Choctaw, Clark, Conecuh, Escambia and Monroe counties.
The group is working to create more workforce development opportunities throughout its five-county service areas, Ruzic said.
Ruzic said the grant application was finalized Tuesday.
If funded, the project calls for a new state-of-the-art facility.
