It’s going to be a battle in the trenches for Escambia Academy as the Cougars welcome Crenshaw Christian Academy to town Friday night.

EA bested Fort Dale Academy 34-7 in Greenville last week. CCA had a bye last week.

Cougars head football coach Hugh Fountain said CCA has big players.

“They’ve got a lot of size,” Fountain said. “We haven’t played them before. We know the mostly by film. They have good size up front.”

The biggest challenge this week for EA is matching CCA’s size up front, Fountain said.

Last week’s win over the Eagles was a big win for the team, Fountain said.

“It had a lot of ramifications because Crenshaw isn’t in our region,” he said. “With Fort Dale, the game was important because it helped us get to the even side of the win-loss area.”

The win last week put the Cougars at 2-2 overall, and 1-1 in AISA AAA Region 1.

“We really knew that going into that game, it was very important to win,” Fountain said.

EA won’t be playing in region action this week, but will be neck-deep in it for the next four weeks, which will prove where it stands in the race to the playoffs. At present, Monroe Academy and Autauga Academy are in the top two as the only undefeated teams in the region.

Kick off Friday night is at 7.
