Major league talent will lead the Escambia Academy Baseball Camp on Sat., Dec. 12 at the Canoe school’s baseball field.

Professional players Caleb Gindl of the Toronto Blue Jays and Tucker Ward of the Arizona Diamondbacks, along with University of Mobile Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Jon Seymour will be attending the camp.

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. the day of the camp, and the camp lasts from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. A hot dog lunch will be provided after the camp concludes. The camp is for those interested ages 8-14. Cost is $30.

Gindl, who grew up in Molino, Fla., said he told EA Head Baseball Coach Jeff Price whatever he needed for the camp, he’d provide.

“I just told him I’d like to do something to help out in any way,” Gindl said.

Gindl said the fundamentals on hitting, pitching and fielding the baseball will be taught at the camp.

“We just came up with that idea,” he said.

At present, Gindl — a fifth round draft pick by the Milwaukee Brewers — is in the off season. He is a free agent and is waiting on the winter meetings to commence later this month to see where he’ll play next. He played with the Brewers for seven years.

While in the big leagues, Gindl said the business-like atmosphere is pretty thick, adding that being able to come up to EA and helping the baseball team helps him relive some awesome memories when he played in high school. He played at Pace High School and signed with Troy University before being drafted.

“This the best time I can remember playing baseball,” Gindl said of his high school playing days. “It makes it fun again. That’s another reason I like coming up here.”

Each camper will receive a T-shirt, and after instruction, there will be time set aside for campers to hear from the pro players.
