Escambia County will face a tough test tomorrow against top-ranked Rehobeth in the first round of the Class 5A South Regional Softball Tournament in Gulf Shores.
The Lady Blue Devils (6-14) finished runner up in last week’s area tournament at Jackson, falling to JHS twice.
ECHS coach Brian McGuire said even though the draw is tough, one might as well play the best and get them out of the way.
“I’ve been telling the girls ‘we’ve got a huge task ahead of us,’” McGuire said. “We’re going to have to be focused in what we do. We’re going to have to play our best ball game this year.”
The Lady Blue Devils play tomorrow at 9 a.m. The winner of the game plays nexts at 4:30 p.m. The loser plays at 1:30 p.m.
The tournament bracket is double elimination.
McGuire said the girls aren’t doing anything special at practice, but just focusing on themselves.
“I’m really not worried about what they do,” he said. “We’ve just got to take care of what we do. If we play our ball game, we’ll be fine. They aught to field the ball, catch it and throw it.
“Hopefully, we’ll be able to iron out the wrinkles and make a good showing,” he said.
