Fountain wins 5A triple jump title

Escambia County’s Anthony Fountain won the Class 5A state championship in the triple jump event at the state track and field meet last weekend in Gulf Shores.

Fountain jumped the triple jump, which includes three separate jumps, in 46 feet, 11 inches.

Additionally, Fountain finished second in the long jump event.

Overall, the Blue Devils finished 15th in the state.

ECHS coach Phillip Drake said the team as a whole did well.

“This year, they finished off very well,” he said. “It’s a very good improvement from last year. We’re looking forward to next year.”

In other track action, Eunique Rudolph finished in fifth place in the 100-meter dash and sixth place in the 100-meter hurdles.
