Francis Dortch Jones

Mrs. Francis Dortch Jones, 68, of Atmore, answered the master’s call on Sun., May 29, 2016, at Atmore Community Hospital.

A native of Escambia County. she was born in Little Rock Community and attended school at Freemanville School and Escambia County Training School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, fishing and gardening.

She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Lee Jones; and her parents, Willie Mack Dortch Sr. and Alberta Brown Dortch.

Those left to cherish her life are her husband, Jessie Jones; three daughters, Jessie Marie Pittman, Angela Denise Holt and Debra Ann Betts; one son, Otis Gene Dortch of Ft. Myers, Fla.; seven sisters, Willie Mae McDowell, Betty Marshall and Barbara Dortch, all of Atmore, Nancy Dortch of Orlando, Fla., Jackie Brodgen, Clara Curry and Helen Dortch, all of Ft. Myers, Fla.; six brothers, Willie Mack Dortch Jr., George Dortch, Willie M. Dortch and Larry Simpson, all of Atmore; Willie A. Dortch and Willie G. Dortch, both of Ft. Myers; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sat., June 4, 2016, from Elizabeth Holiness Baptist Church of Atmore with Apostle Jimmie C. Wilson serving as eulogist, and the Rev. Dan Abner as host pastor. Inhumation was in Fairview Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

Patricia Jean Glass Myles

Mrs. Patricia Jean Glass Myles, 61, of Birmingham, formerly of Leesburg and Bay Minette, exchanged her earthly life for eternal life on Thurs., June 9, 2016, at Baptist Hospital-Princeton in Birmingham.

She was a native of Leesburg, where she grew up in the Providence Missionary Baptist Church. She was a 1973 graduate from Cherokee County High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Alabama State University in Montgomery and both her master’s degree and education specialist from the University of South Alabama in Mobile. She was a retired teacher with Escambia County (Ala.) Board of Education, where she taught kindergarten for 25 years at Rachel Patterson Elementary School in Atmore.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Vanessa Jeanne Myles; her father, Sam Glass; and her brother, Kenneth “Pee Wee” Glass.

Those left to cherish her life are her loving and devoted husband of 42 years, Edward Miles Sr. of Birmingham; one daughter, April Nicole Myles of Birmingham; one son, Edward (Yolanda) Myles Jr. of Sanford, N.C.; her mother, Finous Glass of Leesburg; one sister, Sammie Glass (Rennie) McCreary of Leesburg; one brother, Kim (Regina) Glass of Birmingham; five grandchildren; two aunts, Fohy Landrum of Leesburg and Billie Pearl (George) Drake of Thomson, Ga.; mother in law, Nellie Myles of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers in law, Billy Elmore of Huntsville and Percy (Paula) Fisher of Rock Hill, S.C.; sisters in law, Arralean Ellis of Fairfax, Va., Barbara Webb of Pensacola, Fla., Mildred Young of Laurel, Md., Carolyn West of Atlanta and Valerie Joyner of Cincinnati, Ohio; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, Dollie McElroy of Cedar Bluff and Maxine Hale Cowser of Ball Play; and special former co-workers, Barbara Ann Dukes of Atmore (Freemanville Community) and Brenda Watkins of Atmore.

Celebration of Life Memorial services will be held this Sat., June 18, 2016, at 1 p.m. from Zion Star AME Zion Church in Atmore with the Rev. H. L. Shuford, pastor, officiating. Lena Mae Richardson

Mrs. Lena Mae Richardson, 94, of Walnut Hill, Fla., fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Fri., June 10, 2016, at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

A native of Monroe Co., she moved to Walnut Hill many years ago. As she relocated, she joined New St. Paul Baptist Church in Walnut Hill, where she was recognized as the mother of the church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, singing, sewing and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Richardson Sr.; two sons, Floyd Richardson Jr. and John Richardson; her parents, Tom and Carrie Richardson, as well as other family members.

Those left to cherish her life and legacy are one daughter, Betty Wiggins of Pensacola; one son, Elder Jessie (Evelyn) Richardson of Atmore; two sisters, Earnestine Dailey of Chicago, Ill. and Dorothy Williams of Oakland, Calif.; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sat., June 18, 2016 , at 1 p.m. from Longmire-Jones Memorial Chapel of Turner Funeral Chapel, 83 Westbrook Lane, Atmore with the Rev. Willie White officiating. Retirement of her remains will be in Bethany Church Cemetery in Burnt Corn. Public viewing will be Friday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

Tamara Tryphena Laseia Russell

Ms. Tamara Tryphena Laseia Russell, 33, of Atmore, entered her heavenly home at Jacobi Medical Center in Bronx, N.Y. while visiting there.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., she had been a resident of Atmore for several years. She was a high school graduate and was nearing completion of her nursing degree at Jefferson Davis Community College. She enjoyed shopping, watching cartoons and her favorite show, “Empire.” Her family admonishes her love for couponing.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edward M. Pegram; and her grandparents.

Those who will cherish her life, love and legacy are her children Anica S. Marquez and Xavier N. Marquez, both of Atmore; her mother, Patricia A. Russell of Atmore; her stepfather, Willie B. Johnson of Atmore; three brothers, Mashun Russell of Charlotte, N.C., Travis Russell and Austin Russell both of Brooklyn; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held this Sat., June 18, 2016, at 11 a.m. from Holy Community Holiness Church of Atmore with Apostle Jimmie C. Wilson, pastor, officiating.

Inhumation will be in Stallworth Cemetery. Public viewing will be Fri., June 17, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the family will be receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

Beulah Hall Spicer

Mrs. Beulah Hall Spicer, 91, passed away on Fri., June 10, 2016, in Atmore.

She was a native of Andalusia and a resident of Bratt, Fla., since 1959. She was a homemaker, loved farming and was a member of the Pleasant Home Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Monsanto and Alatex Industry.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert Ralph Spicer.

She is survived by her two sons, Robert E. (Stephanie) Spicer of Atmore, and Rex (Sarah) Spicer of Atmore; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Mon., June 13, 2016, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Delbert Redditt and the Rev. Tim Hawsey serving as officiants.

Burial followed at Serenity Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation was held at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes LLC of Atmore was in charge of all arrangements.

Claude Augustus Thomas

Mr. Claude Augustus Thomas, 79, of Atmore, entered his heavenly mansion on Fri., June 10, 2016, peacefully at his residence.

A native of Atmore and a graduate of Escambia County Training School, he lived in New York for many years, where he worked at Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, N.Y., retiring in 1998. After retirement, Claude and his wife, Bernice relocated back to Atmore and joined Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Thomas; his parents, Walter and Hattie Mae Thomas Sr.; and all 9 of his siblings.

Those left to cherish his life are his daughters, Sandra Thomas of Atmore and Beverly (Dexter) Mitchell of Westbury, N.Y.; sons, Adrian Thomas of Hempstead, N.Y. and Douglas Blackwell of Westbury, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held this Fri., June 17, 2016, at 1 p.m. from Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church located at 157 Carver Ave in Atmore with the Rev. Willie Hawthorne, pastor, officiating. Retirement of his remains will be in Stallworth Cemetery. Public viewing will be held tomorrow, Thurs., June 16, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.
