Cougars ranked No. 2 in 1st ASWA poll

Escambia Academy remained at No. 2 in the first high school football poll from the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
The poll was released late Tuesday, and the Cougars (2-0) are behind top-ranked Bessemer Academy. EA plays BA in the final game of its regular season on Fri., Oct. 28.
EA is coming off of a 41-12 rout over the two-time AISA Class 1A defending champion Abbeville Christian. The Cougars led 13-6 at halftime, but broke the game wide open in the third quarter, scoring 21 unanswered points to pull away for good.
Kainoa Gumapac and Patrick McGhee scored on pick sixes, and Fred Flavors caught a long pass for a touchdown in the third.
In the fourth, Paolo Gorme scored on a 1-yard dash.
EA is off this week, and will travel to face Northview in a cross-boarder rival showdown.
