Fannie Mae Peoples

Mrs. Fannie Mae Peoples, 80, of Perdido, entered her heavenly mansion on Sun., Aug. 28, 2016, peacefully at her home.

A native of Jackson (Clarke Co.), Mrs. Peoples attended Carlton Jr. High School. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and flowers. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Little River.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lee Peoples; two daughters, Mary and Gloria Peoples; and her parents, David, Sr. and Mary Francis Porter.

She will live on forever in the memories of her six daughters, Maxcine (James) Austin and Carla Peoples of Pensacola, Fla., Voncile Peoples of Flint, Mich., Maybell (Calvin) Boggan of Arlington, Texas, Genevia Peoples of Perdido and Patricia White of Montgomery; two sons, Jessie (Debra) Peoples of Flint and Leedell Peoples of Perdido; five sisters, Bessie Eason of Monroeville, Annie (Eddie) German of Perdido, Evelyn (Rev. Robert) Brown of Stockton, Mamie Dean of Detroit, Mich. and Rosa (Rev. Charles) Farmer of Bay Minette; six brothers, Will Porter, Fred Porter and John Porter, all of Little River, Edmond (Estelle) Porter of Mobile, Elijah Porter of Saraland and David Porter Jr. of Detroit; 22 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held Sat., Sept 3, 2016, at 2 p.m. from Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Little River. Retirement of her remains will be in Tate Chapel (Red Eagle) Cemetery in Little River. Public viewing will be Fri., Sept. 2, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

 

James “Mike” Odom

Mr. James “Mike” Odom, 62, passed away on Sun., Aug. 28, 2016, in Pensacola, Fla.

He was a native of Atmore and a resident of Century, Fla., for most of his life. He was a member of the American Legion, self-employed brick mason and was of the Baptist Faith.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Calvin Odom; and a brother, James Odom.

He is survived by his mother, Lena Mae Odom of Bratt, Fla.; wife, Danette Odom of Century; three daughters, Margie Odom of Century, Megan Odom of Century and Marissa (Greg) Apple of Germantown, Ohio; one brother, Jerry Nicholas of Pascagoula, Miss.; and one sister, Joyce (Mike) Gunn of Bratt.

Funeral services will be tomorrow, Thurs., Sept. 1, 2016, at 3 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Lisenby officiating.

Burial will follow at the Flomaton Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sept. 1, 2016, from 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Brown, Johnny Bush, JR Bush, Daniel Johnson, Doug Norsworthy and Don Norsworthy.

Linda Carol Leto

Mrs. Linda Carol Leto, 64, loving wife, mother, grandmother and longtime resident of Atmore and Key West, Fla., passed away Tues., Aug. 23, 2016, at home surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter A. Leto.

Mrs. Leto is survived by her three children, Robert Goens (Jessica) of Daphne, David Leto (Alexsa) of Key West and Angelina Dean (Robert) of Paducah, K.Y.; 13 grandchildren, Christopher Goens, Peter Goens, Krystle Goens Thomas, Taylor Summerville Goens, Mary Goens, Abbigail Goens, Jeffrey Mosley, Jonathan Mosley, Helena Hernquist, Ariana Corsi Leto, Daniel Dean, Ashlee Dean and Rebecca Dean; six great-grandchildren, Hayley, Austin, Cody, Tyler, Robbie and Khloe; five sisters, Peggy Sunday, Mae Wallace, Janice Owens, Ellen Taylor and Wanda Everette; two brothers, Larry Bass and Davy Bass; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and two very special women that were like daughters to her, Michelle Goens and Tracey Goens.

Services were held on Aug. 27, 2016, at Presley Street Baptist Church in Atmore. Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.hughesfh.com. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL.

Malcolm Corum Major Jr.

Mr. Malcolm Corum Major Jr., 73, passed away on Tues., Aug. 23, 2016, in Atmore.

He was a native of Pensacola, Fla., former resident of Bratt, Fla. and has resided in Atmore most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retired from Vanity Fair with 30 years of service and worked five years with Masland Carpet. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Lettie Godwin; and uncle, Talton Godwin.

He is survived by one son, Johnny Major of Phoenix City; one daughter, Allison Major (Corey) Hicks of Stapleton; and one step-daughter, Holly L. Ramer of Atmore.

Funeral services were held Aug. 27, 2016, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Welch officiating.

Burial followed at the Godwin Cemetery.

Visitation was held Aug. 27, 2016 from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Wayne Godwin, Jonathan Godwin, Cacey Godwin, Ed Hudson, Steven White and Gary Bailey.

Mary Pearl Stots

Mrs. Mary Pearl Stots, 84, of Atmore, answered the Master’s call on Mon., Aug. 22, 2016, at Atmore Community Hospital.

A native of Atmore (Canoe Community), Mrs. Mary Pearl attended the Canoe School. She worked for the Swift family for many years and enjoyed sewing. She was a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess, church treasurer, a trustee and attended Sunday school.

She was preceded in death two husbands, Neal Payne and William R. Stots; two daughters, Frankie Diane Payne and Gloria Jean Bryars; her parents, Carrie Brooks and Sammie Odom; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all of her siblings.

Those living to cherish memories of her life are two daughters, Joan Bailey of Westbury, N.Y. and Mickey Brown of Atmore; 10 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren; and step-children, Timothy Stots, Albert Stots, Willie Lee Stots, David Stots, William Stots, Bishop Willie L. Williams, Doris Johnson, Sarah Flavors, Elizabeth Rivers, Edna Humphrey, Marion English, Calvin Stots and Lemon Freeman.

Funeral services will be Sat., Sept. 3, 2016, at noon from Liberty Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Isaac Bradley, pastor, officiating. Retirement of her remains will be in Stallworth Cemetery. Public viewing will be Fri., Sept. 2, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.
