Whoever plays its best game will be champion Friday as Escambia Academy sets its sites on Autauga Academy for the AISA Class 2A championship.

The Cougars are playing the Generals at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the campus of Troy University at a kick of time of 3:30 p.m.

During the regular season, EA met AA on Oct. 21 and suffered a 41-34 loss. Last week, the Cougars dispatched of Clarke Prep 54-24 in the semifinals to gain the championship berth.

“Getting a chance to play in a state championship is obviously special,” EA head football coach Hugh Fountain said. “It really just comes down to who plays the best on Friday at 3:30. If you win, it’s pretty self explanatory, and if you lose it, you’re going to have to see what you did wrong.”

Playing at 3:30, when it’s much lighter than a normal 7 p.m. game, isn’t going to affect the team, Fountain said.

“If it was at noon, then it would have a huge impact. The game being at 3:30 doesn’t have as big impact because that’s usually our timeframe for practice.”
