Escambia County wins annual county tournament

Escambia County’s boys basketball team won the county championship, defeating W.S. Neal 70-41 at Flomaton on Saturday.

The Blue Devils started out the championship game a little slow, but a 26-point second period and a 19-point third were enough for a comfortable lead.

Devon Robinson led the way for Escambia County with 17 points. Lue Williams had 10 points.

Leading Neal was Jacobey Hawthorne with nine points. Marvin Maddox had seven points.

Neal had 28 turnovers in the game.

In girls action, ECHS beat W.S. Neal 44-13 on Saturday.
The following is how ECHS did on Dec. 8-9 of the tournament:
Thurs., Dec. 8
TRM 54, ECHS 35 (Girls)

The Lady Tigers got out to an early lead and never looked back in its first win of the tournament.

Leading Miller was Kyla Bell-Barton with 21 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. Janazsia Nettles had 10 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals. Steely Ruzic had 10 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Ja’Quanda Webster led ECHS with 15 points.

 

ECHS 65, TRM 37 (Boys)

The Tigers made a late run at the end of the second quarter to keep the game close, but found themselves hampered by 20 turnovers and a good shooting night by the Blue Devils, notably #5 who finished the game with 21 points of off seven made three-pointers. Michael Smith led Miller in scoring with nine points. Devin Robinson led the Blue Devils with 27 points.

 

Fri., Dec. 9
Flomaton 40,

ECHS 32 (Girls)

Ja’Quanda Webster led ECHS with 14 points, Jade Adams had 11 points.

Flomaton’s Madison McFadden led the Lady Canes with 11 points, and Tamera Dunn had 10 points.

 

ECHS 78,

Flomaton 32 (Boys)

Devon Robinson led ECHS with 13 points. Lue Williams had 11 points. Triston Knott had 10 points.

Flomaton’s Corey Bailey had 10 points.

 

Ja’Quanda Webster of Escambia County was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Escambia County Blue Devils were named first place winners of the boys’ division. Named to the All-Tournament team were Jacobey Hawthorne of WSN; Joshua Jolly of TRM; Daquan Johnson of Flomaton; and Triston Knott of ECHS. Robinson was named most valuable player.
Escambia County will be in action on Friday at home against Flomaton.
