BOE to vote on new ECHS coach Thursday

Escambia County High School is going to have a new football coach soon.

“We’re very excited to have submitted our name from a pool of 64 applicants,” Principal Dennis Fuqua said. “We narrowed it down to a short list of people that we have interviewed.

“We have selected what we think is the best candidate for Escambia County High School,” he said.

Fuqua said the name of the coach, which won’t be released until tomorrow at the school board meeting, was submitted to Superintendent John Knott on Monday.

“It should be official after the board votes on Thursday,” he said.

To help select the Blue Devils’ next coach, a committee wheedled down 64 applications until it unanimously picked the yet-to-be-released coach’s name, Fuqua said.

“He was the unanimous choice,” Fuqua said. “We didn’t have to do a second vote.”

Fuqua said the new coach will start working on Wed., March 1.

“It feels extremely good to get this done so that we can start moving forward with a new coach,” he said.
