Community members, dignitaries get to know new ECHS head football coach Rico Jackson
“The roots to win are here. We just have to dig them up.”
That’s what new Escambia County head football coach Rico Jackson told community members and city dignitaries Monday night at a meet the coach event.
Jackson, who was hired in late February, said in his three years as a head coach, the meet and greet event was a first.
“This is the first time I’ve had a reception in my third year as a head coach,” he said.
Culinary students from ECHS provided finger foods for the guests.
Jackson said he believes Atmore can win.
“I’m on assignment,” he said. “That means I’ve been placed here for a reason.
“I believe in the community, and I believe we can turn this around.”
Last season, the Blue Devils finished 2-8, a year after finishing 1-9 in 2015.
Jackson said it’s going to be a process and he’s going to work hard to make sure the team is successful.
