EA, MEA split in 2A quarterfinals

Cougars, Knights to play game three decider today at 4 p.m.

CECIL — Escambia Academy split with third-ranked Macon East Academy, winning the first game 2-1 and falling 17-4 in the nightcap of the AISA Class 2A Quarterfinals.

With the split, both will face off today at 4 p.m. at MEA in a third-game decider for the series.

“The first game was a battle royal,” EA coach John Fields said. “It was a hard-fought game. Both games were hard-fought games. We just ran out of gas in the second, and we were just low on pitching.”
Macon East 17, Escambia Academy 4

The Knights scored two runs in the first inning, one run in the second, four runs in the fourth, five runs in the fifth, one run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh.

Macon East’s Nick Fitzgerald allowed four earned runs and one hit in 4.1 innings to earn the win for the Knights.

Seth Meadows went 3-for-5 with three RBIs to lead MEA. Jacob Johns went 2-for-5 with two RBIs; Connor Owens went 1-for-3 with two RBIs; Will Dowe went 2-for-5 with two RBIs; and Tyson Tubbs had an RBI.

EA’s Fred Flavors went 1-for-2 with two RBIs to lead the Cougars. Ryan Johnson, Drew Parker and Kainoa Gumapac had one hit each.
Escambia Academy 2, Macon East 1

Parker threw a complete game, struck out four and allowed one run on five hits to earn the win.

Parker had solid defense behind him throughout the game. MEA eight runners on base during the game.

Flavors went 2-for-3 with two runs to lead the Cougars. He scored in the fourth and sixth innings on RBI from Bryant Quimby.

Jackson Bonner and Johnson had one hit each. Chase Bell went 2-for-4.

Chandler Lunn went 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead the Knights.
