Five people were injured Sunday night in a two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Highway 97 and Ficklin Road, near Walnut Hill, Fla., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Tyler D. Respress (driver), 35, and Ashley Respress, 34, both of Atmore, were in a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 when it collided with a 2006 Hyundai Sonata, occupied by Travis English (driver), 38, of Pensacola, Fla., Athena McBride, 39, of Cantonment and Gabreal McDowell, 23, of Pensacola.
English and McDowell suffered serious injures, and McBride suffered critical injuries. The Respresses’ injuries were listed as serious. All five were taken to Sacred Heart Hospital, according to the FHP.
According to the FHP, the Sonata crossed the center line in a no-passing zone into the northbound lane of Highway 97. Both drivers took evasive actions toward the east shoulder, causing the front of the Ram 3500 to collide with the left front of the Sonata.
“Vehicle 1 (the Sonata) rotated counter clockwise and traveled in a northeasterly direction,” FHP Public Information Officer Eddie Elmore said. “Vehicle 1 (the Sonata) came to a final rest on the east shoulder of State Road 97, facing southwest.
“Vehicle 2 (the Ram 3500) came to a final rest partially on the northbound lane of State Road 97, just north of the area of the collision facing southeast,” he said.
Because of the severity of the wreck, the Atmore Fire Department was called to assist in the extraction of those that were in the Sonata.
Escambia County Fire and Rescue, the AFD, the FHP, Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office and Walnut Hill Fire Department responded to the wreck.
According to the FHP, all charges are pending.
