No need for speed
Commissioner requests speed change on Cowpen Creek Rd.
Locals who travel Cowpen Creek Road may have a new speed limit during school hours near Escambia Academy soon.
Commissioner Brandon Smith, who represents the area on the Escambia County Commission, said Monday that he’d like to see the speed limit drop during school hours.
Currently the speed limit is 25 mph during school arrival and departure.
However, Smith said people do not adhere to that speed limit and children cross the road frequently.
“We need to get it changed real quick,” he said.
The commission will discuss the change at the next commission meeting.
Sheriff Grover Smith gave his support for the change.
