Cougars compete in Hattiesburg, Miss. exhibition

Escambia Academy sent a small squad of track and field athletes to a Hattiesburg, Miss. meet at Trinity Presbyterian High School on March 20.

Cougars coach Hugh Fountain said he was proud of the team as they were competing during spring break.

“We had six personal bests, and that’s good,” Fountain said. “The track schedule is packed the next few weeks, and the state meet is four weeks away. We hope to keep our focus and bring home the state championship.”

• Shannon Wheat — 110-meter hurdles, first place (17.23 seconds); 200-meter hurdles (21.83 seconds); and 100-meter dash, second place (10.83); long jump, third place (19-feet, 8-inches);

• Chase Bell — 110-meter hurdles, second place (18.23) and 300-meter hurdles (45 seconds);

• Tiquale Taylor — high jump, first place (6-feet, 2-inches);

• Orlando Medina — 800-meter dash, first place (2 minutes, 13 seconds);

• Tyrese Smith — 400-meter, second place (55 seconds); and,

• Devin Kelly — 110-meter hurdles, third place; 100-meter dash, third place.

The Cougars are back in action today at a home meet in Canoe.
