Escambia Academy’s Landon Sims accounted for three touchdowns to help lead the Cougars to a 36-6 region victory over Southern Academy tonight.
With the victory, EA finished the regular season undefeated in AISA Class 2A, Region 2. The Cougars won their region two weeks ago after a shutout win over Autauga.
During the road victory over SA, Sims punched it in from 10 yards, connected with Bubba Nettles on a 67-yard scoring pass and added a 16-yard touchdown run.
Sims finished with 105 yards on seven carries, and was 5-of-8 for 146 yards in the air.
EA took control of the game early, and held onto the lead throughout.
“We’re proud to finish the region undefeated,” EA head football coach Hugh Fountain said. “Now, we’ve got a big game against Bessemer next week. Then, we have the playoffs in front of us.”
With the region championship solidified, EA hosts the first round of the playoffs.
Fountain said the team is treating next week’s game against BA as the its start to the playoffs.
Kick off next week in Canoe is at 7 p.m.
