Escambia County’s boys and girls track and field team participated in the AHSAA Class 4A Section 1 meet April 23-24 at T.R. Miller.

The sectional meet is held each year for state qualifying. The top five in each event advance to the state track and field meet, which will be held today through May 1 in Gulf Shores.

Escambia County’s Tyquaja Brown and D’Ayla Simmons qualified for state in the 100-meter dash; Tykelui Frye qualified in the 400-meter dash; Malikwa Harvey qualified in the 100-meter hurdles; and the girls’ 4×100-meter relay team qualified.

In boys, Nehmiah Tucker qualified in the long jump; Darron Nichols qualified in 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles; and the boys’ 4×100-meter relay team qualified.

ECHS results by gender and category included:

Girls

• Shot put – Adrianna Salter, sixth place – 23 feet

• 100-meter dash – Tyquaja Brown, third place – 13.55 seconds; and D’Ayla Simmons, fourth place, 13.83 seconds

• 400-meter dash – Tykelui Frye, third place – 1 minute, 11.21 seconds; and Areana Dread, seventh place – 1:20.03

• 100-meter hurdles – Malikwa Harvey, first place – 20.27 seconds

• 4×100-meter relay – ECHS, first place – 55.57 seconds

Boys

• Long jump – Nehmiah Tucker, fourth place – 18 feet, 5 inches

• 100-meter dash – Tyson Moorer, sixth place – 11.90 seconds

• 200-meter dash – Elijah Thomas, sixth place – 23.95 seconds

• 400-meter dash – D’Andre Richardson, 14th – 1:05.19; and Mason Huggins, 15th – 1:08.22

• 110-meter hurdles – Darron Nichols, second place – 20.77 seconds

• 300-meter hurdles – Nichols, third place – 51.56 seconds

• 4×100-meter relay – ECHS, second place – 46.02 seconds
