A Fountain correctional officer was assaulted by an inmate on July 26, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.
Deputy to the Chief of Staff Kristi Simpson said on July 26 at approximately 6 p.m., an inmate-on-officer assault was reported at Fountain Correctional Facility just outside of Atmore.
“Inmate Trenton White, a 29 year old inmate serving a 50-year sentence for two counts of attempted murder, three counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling/vehicle, first-degree robbery and second-degree assault all out of Calhoun County, assaulted a correctional officer from behind using a makeshift weapon,” Simpson said in an email. “Following the incident, the officer was transported to a local hospital, treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and subsequently released.”
Simpson added that the ADOC condemns all violence in its facilities, and the unacceptable actions taken by this inmate against an ADOC staff member are being thoroughly investigated by the department’s Law Enforcement Services Division (LESD).
“As the investigation is ongoing, we cannot provide additional details at this time,” she said. “However, this inmate will be held to account for this assault and, upon the conclusion of the investigation, LESD will present its findings to the local prosecuting authority for consideration of a charge of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.”
