Main Street Atmore projects recognized at annual conference

Main Street Atmore projects were recognized during the ninth annual Awards of Excellence Aug. 18 at the Auburn Marriott Opelika Resort Hotel and Spa at Grand National in Opelika.

The following were recognized for their work on Main Street Atmore over the last year.

  • Main Street Atmore Hero – First National Bank
  • Excellence in Planning and Public Spaces – City of Atmore Box Car Project
  • Excellence in Business Development – Atmore Microloan Fund

During the program, Main Street Alabama President and State Coordinator Mary Helmer Wirth and Assistant State Coordinator Trisha Black honored projects and individuals that made impacts in their respective communities.

The Alabama Municipal Electric Authority sponsored the event.

The program recognized winners in the categories of preservation, historic rehabilitation, fundraising, public relations, public/private partnerships, business development, economic impact, adaptive reuse, promotion, business promotion, marketing, placemaking, non-historic building design and planning and public space.

Local Main Street programs also selected a Main Street Hero that honored an individual, business or organization that made an outstanding contribution to their program.
