Escambia County’s boys basketball team is No. 8 in Class 4A in the first Alabama Sports Writers Association poll, which was released today.

Defending state champion Jacksonville is No. 1 in 4A with UMS-Wright No. 2. Westminster Huntsville, Anniston and Hanceville round out the top five.

The ASWA high school basketball rankings, the first of the season, began with teams reporting results to their local sports writers, who nominated teams for consideration. The next rankings will be in January.
