Northview’s Burkett gets 3 hits, win on mound in Chiefs’ 7-5 victory over Flomaton

Northview’s Cason Burkett went 3-for-3 with four RBIs to help lead the Chiefs to a season-opening 7-5 victory over Flomaton Tuesday night in Bratt, Fla.
Trailing 2-0 after two innings, the Chiefs scored one run each in the third sixth innings, three runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth.
Burkett hit a triple in the bottom of the third, and later scored on a fielder’s choice. In the bottom of the fourth, he added a single, advanced to second base on the throw in and Josh Landis scored. Wyatt Scruggs and Trent Knighten later scored on the throw.
Burkett later hit a double in the bottom of the sixth inning to score Knighten.
Rustin Pope, Landis and Knighten had one hit each for NHS.
Burkett, who came in for Tyler Shaw on the mound, earned the win, striking out nine batters while allowing three runs on six hits in 5.2 innings.
Flomaton’s Christopher Spann went 2-for-4 with an RBI; and Will Smith, Reynaldo Salazar, C. Silbernagel, Jakson Newton, Blake Macks and J Alaniz had one hit each.
In softball action, the Lady Chiefs fell to T.R. Miller 12-2 in Brewton.
