Atmore 15-year-old All-Stars open state tournament with 2 wins

Atmore’s 15-year-old Babe Ruth Baseball All-Stars are off to a good start at the state tournament after defeating Sylacauga 12-1 and Monrovia 16-4 today in pool play action in Tallassee.
Atmore will play Opp tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. to continue in pool play before bracket action begins on Saturday.
Atmore 12, Sylacauga 1
The All-Stars scored two runs each in the first and third innings, five runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth.
Luke Chavers went 3-for-3 with three runs and RBIs each; Bryant Mason went 2-for-2 with four RBIs; Jayden White went 1-for-2 with three RBIs; Ben Landis went 1-for-2 with an RBI; and Evan Foster went 0-for-2 with an RBI to lead Atmore.
Foster struck out five and allowed one run on three hits in 5.0 innings for the win on the mound.
Atmore 16, Monrovia 6
Atmore’s John Hatch had four hits with two doubles and a triple.
Atmore scored three runs each in the first, third and fourth innings; one run in the fifth and six in the seventh.
Foster went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs; A’ydan Crabtree went-2-for-3 with an RBI; Will Strawbridge went 2-for-3 to lead the hometown All-Stars.
White struck out seven batters and allowed one run on one hit in 3.0 innings; Taylor Curtis had two strikeouts in 3.0 innings; and Hatch struck out two in an inning.
