PCI to host Native Youth Classic baseball, softball tournament July 20-22

Thirty-six teams will play in the first-ever Native Youth Classic July 20-22 at Arrowhead Park in Poarch.

The baseball and softball tournament will feature Tribes from Poarch, Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, the East Band of Cherokee Indians and Oklahoma.

Ages competing in the tournament includes from 8U to 18U.

Tournament Director Jake McGhee said the format is pool play with single elimination bracket play following.

Action begins tomorrow with the 15U and 18U boys baseball tournament at 8:30 a.m. Four games will be played.

Then on Friday and Saturday, all age groups will begin play at 8:30 a.m.

McGhee said this tournament will help bring more Tribes to the area.

“This is something we’ve been trying to do,” McGhee said. “This is going to be a good thing.”

Additionally, Poarch is holding the Native Classic on Aug. 10-12. The classic is an adult slow pitch softball tournament.
