Poarch softball, baseball teams finish in top 3 of divisions during Native Youth Classic

Poarch’s softball and baseball teams finished in the top three of their respective age divisions during the Native Youth Classic July 20-22 at Arrowhead Park.

All of the baseball teams finished in first place. The 8U, 10U, 12U and 18U girls tallied third place finishes. The 15U girls finished in second place.

Tournament Director Jake McGhee said the tournament went well.

“Everything went real smooth,” McGhee said. “On Saturday, when the rains came, we had to stop for four to five hours. Other than that, everything else went smooth, and we didn’t have any issues.”

McGhee added that all who attended the tournament said they enjoyed it.

“Hopefully, next year we’ll get more teams and more people in,” he said.

Results by sport and age division included:

Softball

  • 8U girls – Hummingbirds of Choctaw, Miss., first place; the Hunters of Oklahoma, second place
  • 10U girls – Diamond Elite of Cherokee, N.C., first place; and The Rez Socks, second place
  • 12U girls – Diamond Elite, first place; and Lady Tomahawks, of Mississippi
  • 15U girls – Mississippi Sparks, first place
  • 18U girls – Lady Tomahawks, first place; and Lady As, second place

Baseball

  • 8U boys – Merciless Savages, second place; and the Outlaws, third place
  • 10U boys – Sandlot Boys of Mississippi, second place; and the Braves, third place
  • 12U boys – the Braves, second place; and the Cubs, third place
  • 15U boys – the Rez Warriors, second place
  • 18U boys – Southeastern Diamondbacks, second place

Additionally, Poarch is holding the Native Classic on Aug. 10-12. The classic is an adult slow pitch softball tournament.
