The Nichols Family provided 70 pre-game meals for Escambia County’s football team today in honor of Gordon Nichols, who passed away in a car crash some four years ago.

Melissa Nichols and Walton (Nichols) Thompson provided each player and coach the meal prior to the Blue Devils’ game against St. Michael tonight.

Walton said her brother, Gordon, loved playing football for the school, and encouraged the team to play hard.

“Knock some heads, and play for each other,” Walton said. “And know we love y’all.”

David’s Catfish House cooked the meals, which consisted of chicken fingers, mashed potatoes and green beans. Additionally, honey mustard and ranch dipping sauce were provided.

Additionally, this meal marks the beginning of Gordon’s Giving, a season dedicated to giving back to the community in honor of Gordon.

The Blue Devils enter tonight’s home contest 3-0 overall, and 1-0 in Class 4A, Region 1.

This season’s start marks the best for the team since 2019, when it began 3-0 on the year.
