UPDATE: The Alabama High School Athletic Association has cleared Escambia County to play this week for homecoming.

Escambia County’s Jamarion Robinson threw three first-half touchdowns, and EJ Thomas scored a touchdown on a punt return to help lead the Blue Devils to a 41-20 region victory over Wilcox Central on Sept. 22.

The game was stopped after two quarters because of an incident that occurred during the game, head football coach Vincent Harris said.

Harris declined to comment on the incident until the Alabama High School Athletic Association makes its ruling.

With the victory, the Blue Devils improve to 4-1 overall, and 2-1 in Class 4A, Region 1.

Harris said in spite of the incident, the boys played well and solid on offense.

Harris added that Markavion Dixon had two interceptions on defense.

“I just appreciate all of the support from the fans,” Harris said. “I want to thank my administration, especially my superintendent, Michele McClung.”

This week, the Blue Devils host Monroe County for homecoming.

Harris said it’s going to be a good football game.

“Monroe County is a much-improved football team,” he said. “They’re solid on offense and defense, and have a good football coach (Shannon Felder) as a head coach. That’s going to be a tough football game for us.

“Based on film that I’ve seen, they’ve struggled the last couple of games, but Mobile Christian is really, really good,” he said. “They’ve been in every game they’ve played.”

Monroe County enters this week’s contest 1-3 overall.

Harris said tackling, containing Monroe County quarterback Jacorey Stallworth and playing well offensively are the keys to success for the game.

Kick off Friday in Atmore is at 7 p.m.
