Escambia Academy’s Keller Coston accounted for five touchdowns to help lead the Cougars to a 46-14 homecoming victory over Pickens Academy tonight at Bachelor Field in Canoe.
Coston ran three touchdowns from 45, 28 and 16 yards, threw two to Quinton Odom from 80 and 78 yards out. Ty McCants scored two touchdowns from 91 and 14 yards out.
“The kids overcome homecoming week again,” EA head football coach Gex Billups said. “With all of the distractions we had, we had a good week of practice. It translated to tonight. We had good offense, defense and special teams. We’ve just got to come back ready to work next week.”
With the victory, the Cougars improve to 3-4 overall, and 1-2 in AISA Class 2A, Region 2. EA visits Patrician Academy next week in region play.
Billups said Patrician runs the same offense Pickens runs in a Wing-T. Having two weeks of practice on that scheme will help.
Billups encouraged the boys to be more physical up front going into next week.
“I think if we overcome that we’ll be fine, we just have to get ready to work,” he said.
Pickens’s Jack Lang and Lane Johnson scored the touchdowns for the Pirates (1-6).
