EA competes at AISA Cross Country State Championships in Auburn

Escambia Academy’s Cross Country team competed in the AISA Junior Varsity and Varsity State Championships at Keisel Park in Auburn on Wednesday.

Cougars freshman Danny Doerr ran the two-mile event in JV, cutting more than 1 minute off his time from last year, running a 10 minute, 58.10-second third place finish. Last year, Doerr ran a 12:09.47 at the same location.

In varsity action, Doerr placed fourth in the 5K with a time of 18:53.40, finishing more than 2 minutes from the previous year.

Additionally, EA senior Eli Covington, who ran his first season for the Cougars, placed seventh with a time of 19:33.49.

Patrick Byrd finished with a time of 30:52.88 to wrap up the EA runners.

Cougars coach Rider Jernigan thanked each of his team members for allowing him to be their coach for his first year of coaching.

Rider said he is already starting to look towards track season soon, but also recruiting next year’s runners for cross country.
