Cougars fall 36-34 in battle against South Choctaw

Escambia Academy fell 36-34 to South Choctaw in a dog fight tonight at Bachelor Field in Canoe.
A back and forth contest, the Cougars led 22-20 at halftime behind three touchdowns accounted for by quarterback Keller Coston.
The game was tied 28-28 in the fourth quarter.
South Choctaw, leading by the final score, got a big first down with more than 16 seconds to go to ice the game.
Earlier in the game, Coston scored on a 7-yard rush with 8:32 left in the first quarter, and then converted the 2-point conversion to give the Cougars a 8-0 lead.
South Choctaw answered on a short touchdown run, and then took the lead on a 1-yard paydirt run from Brently Turner.
Coston answered a short time later with a 74-yard strike to Quinton Odom, who took it to the house on a short route with 3:33 to go in the first half.
South Choctaw’s Jack Johnson answered the scoring drive with a 3-yard score to put the Toxey team back in the lead.
However, Coston answered with a 15-yard scoot into the end zone with 46.6 seconds left in the first half. His second rushing touchdown was set up by a long reception from Jamarion Crenshaw.
The Cougars will be back in action next week at home against Fort Dale.
