10 Escambia County (Ala.) football players selected to ASWA All-State team

Ten Escambia County (Ala.) football players were selected to the Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State high school football team, which was released Dec. 23.

First team selections included T.R. Miller’s Christopher Williams at defensive back on the Class 4A team; Flomaton’s Jax Fillmore at running back on the Class 3A team; and Escambia Academy’s Quinton Odom at defensive back on the AISA team.

Second team selections included T.R. Miller’s Takyi Askew as an athlete on the 4A team; and EA’s Zeke McElhaney on the defensive line and Keller Coston at athlete on the AISA team.

Honorable mention selections included T.R. Miller’s J.R. Jernigan on the offensive line; Flomaton’s Miles Adams on the defensive line; and W.S. Neal’s Carter Hodges at defensive back and Joe Lee at offensive line on the 3A team.

Williams tallied 31 tackles during the 2023 season, and grabbed seven interceptions.

Fillmore rushed for 2,048 yards on 299 carries and scored 20 touchdowns for the Hurricanes.

Odom had 49 tackles (32 solo, 17 assists) and grabbed two interceptions for the Cougars.
