Escambia County improved to 10-5 on the season after a 54-42 Class 4A, Area 2 win over T.R. Miller Thursday night.

The No. 5 Blue Devils improved to 2-0 in the area this week. ECHS beat Satsuma 67-27 on Tuesday.

ECHS boys basketball coach Layton Knight said Friday it’s good to have the full team back healthy. Standout guard Stephen Williams was out with a sickness during the holidays, where the Blue Devils fell to Briarwood Christian, Highland Home and Calhoun City during the Hoover Tournament.

“It’s scary how good this team can be,” Knight said. “We haven’t peaked, yet.”

Knight said he’s seen some good play from Exavion Bradley, Ta Henderson and Cleo Bolar Jr.

“Our team has grown a lot,” he said.

Knight said his team was 100 percent for the first time last Friday night in a 65-53 victory over Flomaton at home.

As far as games coming up, the Blue Devils visit Hillcrest-Evergreen on Jan. 15; and host Satsuma, Jackson and T.R. Miller on Jan. 16, Jan. 19 and Jan. 23, respectively.

“We’ve got to win next Friday against Jackson,” Knight said.

Knight said he likes the current Blue Devils squad because they’re scrappy.

“You can’t coach that,” the coach said. “They really support each other well.”
