Varsity squads get wins on senior night

Escambia Academy’s boys and girls basketball teams swept South Choctaw Academy Jan. 26 on senior night in Canoe.

The varsity boys defeated the Rebels 84-19; the varsity girls battled late for a 40-32 decision; the junior varsity boys won 60-28; and the junior varsity girls won 42-2.

Seniors Quinton Odom and Luke Bell scored 21 and 11 points, respectively; and Rontae Watson added 23 points to lead the varsity boys.

Zy McNeal led the Lady Cougars with 21 points; and Krislynn Lee added 12 points in the effort.

EA’s seniors included Caitlin Lanham, Scottlia Williams, Scottla Williams, Charlie Sasser, Bell and Odom.

It’s postseason time for EA as the junior varsity boys and girls basketball teams are competing today in the AISA JV State Tournament at Meadowview Christian.

The boys play at 1 p.m., and the girls follow at 2. Both need to win the first game to advance to the championship.

Additionally, with the victory for the varsity No. 5 Cougars, EA improves to 15-2 overall, and 6-0 in AISA Class 1A, Region 2. EA won the region championship, and will host the first round next week.
