The 2012 Escambia County basketball tournament will begin Friday and Saturday, Dec. 21-22, at Escambia County High School in Atmore.

The tournament will begin Friday at 3 p.m. with Flomaton taking on T.R. Miller’s girls followed by the same two teams playing in the boys game at 4:30 p.m.

At 6 p.m., W.S. Neal’s girls will play Escambia County and the boys game will follow at 7:30 p.m. between the Eagles and the Blue Devils.
On Saturday, the losers from Friday’s girls games will begin play at 2 p.m. to decide the third and fourth place teams and will be followed by the boys losers from Friday at 3:30 p.m.

At 5 p.m. Saturday, the winners of the girls games from Friday will play for first and second place followed by the boys winners from Friday at 7 p.m. to decide the boys champion.

In tournament games last year in East Brewton, Flomaton’s girls won their second straight county championship.

In the boys tournament last year, Atmore’s Blue Devils won for the fourth straight year and seventh year out of the last 10 tournaments. T.R. Miller won the tournament in 2002, 2006 and 2007.

In tournament games Friday, Flomaton and Atmore’s girls will be the home team against T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal respectively. In boys games, Flomaton will be home against T.R. Miller and Atmore will be home against W.S. Neal.

In Saturday’s games, the winner of the W.S. Neal and Atmore boys and girls games will be the home team against the T.R. Miller and Flomaton winner.

In the consolation game, the W.S. Neal and Atmore loser will be home against the T.R. Miller and Flomaton loser in both the girls and boys games.

Following the conclusion of both the girls championship game, an all-tournament team will be announced along with the trophy presentation to the champion. The same will follow after the boys championship game.

The selection process for the all-tournament team will see five players and an MVP of the tournament. The players will be selected by their respective coaches.

The third and four place teams will get one selection each while the first and second place teams will get two selections each. The MVP will come from the first place team.

Since 2002, T.R. Miller’s girls have won seven titles, Atmore has won once and Flomaton had won twice.
In boys championship games, Atmore has won seven times with T.R. Miller winning three.

T.R. Miller’s girls won the title from 2002-2005 before Atmore won the championship in 2006. T.R. Miller then won from 2007-2009 before seeing Flomaton end that streak and win the last two.

Next year the tournament is scheduled to be held at Flomaton before going to T.R. Miller in 2014, W.S. Neal in 2015 and back to Atmore in 2016.
