Clara Mae Johnson-Gulley

Jesus said unto her, “I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” John 11:25 Death is not the end; it is really the beginning of life. On Wednesday, Jan.  9, 2013, Sis Clara Mae Gulley began her new life.

Clara was born on Jan. 26, 1949, to the late Rev. Sanders and Ruthie Lee Johnson. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Eddie Johnson and one sister, Shelia Hill. She was baptized at an early age and attended church regularly. She exhibited a kind personality to family, friends and even strangers. Theses characteristics even followed her throughout her illness.

Her precious memories will be cherished forever by her devoted family, her daughter Ruthie (Darrell) Stephens, of Atmore; five brothers, Willie Elbert Johnson, of Atmore; Clifford Johnson and John Henry (Patricia) Johnson, of Detroit, Larry (Gladys) Walker, of Brewton and Jamaine (Kim) Watson, of Atmore; one sister, Brenda Walker, of Atmore; four aunts Beatrice Johnson, Alma Boggan, Vera Boggan, all of Atmore, and Annie Ruth Johnson, of Greenville, Ala.; a devoted niece, Marilyn Smith; a devoted cousin, Jo Ann Jefferson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family. Flower bearers will be family and friends.

Christian Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
