The Escambia County High School Blue Devils’ baseball team had its four-game winning streak snapped in a 12-2 loss to Monroe County Tuesday night.

Pitchers Malcolm Black and Matthew Quimby gave up six runs each in the loss.

“We just got done playing a whole lot of games in a week,” said coach Gavin King. “I think it caught up to us.”

King said the Tigers had a 3-1 lead going into the fourth inning, but that’s when their bats got hot.

“The fourth, fifth and sixth innings is where they poured it on,” he said.

The loss drops the Blue Devils to 5-4. They’ve gone 4-1 in their last five games after starting 1-3.

ECHS played LeFlore at home Friday night, but results weren’t available as of press time. After the game Friday, the Blue Devils take a break for testing. Their next game is Thursday, March 28 at UMS Wright. They play UMS again in a doubleheader in Atmore on Friday, March 29, starting at 4 p.m.
