The Escambia Academy golf team placed second Monday in the final home tournament of the season.

EA shot a team score of 394, but were edged out by the 379 by Fort Dale Academy. Wilcox Academy also competed in the tournament, but didn’t have enough golfers to qualify.

EA’s Scott Brantley had the tournament’s low score with 78 in 18 holes.

“This was his best round of the year in meet play,” EA coach John Brantley wrote in an email.

Scott was tied with Fort Dale’s Patrick Russell going into the final hole. He drained a 30-foot birdie putt to take a three-stroke lead. It was one of his three birdies in the final six holes.

“Russell should be commended for his play on the day,” Coach Brantley wrote. “He was solid throughout the day, but had a rough finishing hole.  He’s a fine competitor.”

EA golfer Garrett Kirk missed qualifying for the state tournament by only two strokes, coach Brantley wrote.

“I have no doubt that Garrett will continue to improve over the next year and qualify easily next season,” he wrote.  “He’s already working with a golf pro at Timber Creek in Daphne to tackle a few issues he’s struggling with in his swing.”

Golfers Todd Lamb and Jackson Breckenridge each shot their second best rounds of the year.

“Both players have matured quickly this season on the course and really stepped up their play to help us compete well as a team,” Brantley wrote.

EA golfer Patrick Hammonds shot his lowest round of the year.

“Patrick is showing a lot of interest in the game as a young person,” Brantley wrote.  “He struck the ball well off of the tee box and in the fairways.  He needs a little work with his putting and his scores will improve greatly.”

John Brantley also thanked the Atmore Country Club for allowing the team to host two tournaments there this season.
