Jury selection for trials to be heard during the fall term of the Escambia County Circuit Court will begin Monday at the Escambia County Courthouse, and several Atmore residents are scheduled to have their day in court.

An Atmore woman, facing a charge of first-degree assault for allegedly dropping her 8-month-old child into a fire, will stand trial this month.

Amanda Pugh, 26, will be in court Tuesday, Sept. 24. She was arrested in November. Witnesses on the scene said Pugh had been drinking excessively and passed out from alcohol consumption in the front yard of her home in the 600 block of Bream Street while holding her daughter. The infant sustained burns to both of her legs.

An Atmore man already behind bars with the Alabama Department of Corrections is expected to face a jury next week on murder charges and a possible life sentence, if convicted of the crime.

Cedric Floyd, who is currently in custody at Kilby Correctional Center, will stay in prison at least until 2024. His current stint behind bars is the result of a parole violation that led Escambia County Circuit Judge Bert Rice to revoke the parole from a 15-year sentence that Floyd faced on sodomy and rape charges.

Floyd will now face a jury in a fight to make sure he does not spend the rest of his life behind bars. He stands accused of the shooting death of his alleged girlfriend, Tina Roshell Jones. Jones was gunned down in her apartment in 2011, and Floyd was later arrested and charged with the crime.

Also among the many cases on this term’s docket, a Brewton man stands charged with attempted murder in connection with a motel standoff in July 2010.

Donald Gregory Wilson faces the attempted murder charge after he allegedly shot a hotel employee and held officers at bay during a standoff at the Colonial Manor Motel on South Boulevard in Brewton.

Wilson’s trial is scheduled to begin Tuesday.
