The Northview Lady Chiefs swept their varsity matches Monday afternoon against Flomaton and Pleasant Home in a dig pink tri-match for breast cancer awareness in Flomaton.
NHS beat the home team in its first match of the day with scores of 25-13 and 25-19. Tiffani Pritchett scored two aces, one kill and one dig and Danielle Steadham scored three aces, one kill, two blocks and four digs.
Game one started with the teams trading scores until NHS took a 6-4 lead on service by Lana Clayton, but she served into the net on her next attempt and made it 6-5 NHS.
Northview took an 8-5 lead on a blocked return volley after a Kyndall Hall serve.
A service ace by Lily Towson gave Northview a 12-9 lead before her serve was broken and Flomaton mounted a comeback.
The Lady Hurricanes tied the game up at 12 before a Steadham slammed home a kill to give the Lady Chiefs a 13-12 lead. Clayton scored a block later that ended with a Flomaton ball in the net and a Northview score that made it 16-13.
Steadham scored an ace that gave NHS an 18-13 lead. A Flomaton player tried to return a ball that went out of bounds to give the Lady Chiefs a 20-13 lead.
Steadham scored another ace to give NHS a 23-13 lead. NHS won the game on an 11-0 run.
Steadham scored a block early in game two that gave NHS a 2-1 lead. Hall added a kill that gave the Lady Chiefs a 4-2 lead. Back-to-back aces by Clayton gave NHS a 6-2 lead before her service was broken.
The Lady Hurricanes went on a run that tied the game at 9-9 before another Steadham block gave Northview the lead at 10-9. An ace by Pritchett gave NHS an 11-9 lead, but Flomaton tied the game at 11 each.
Clayton scored a kill to give NHS a 14-12 lead, but a NHS block out of bounds bring the score within one point. After an NHS score, a Clayton ace makes it 16-13.
An ace by Mallory Wiggins gave NHS an 18-15 lead and another Lady Chiefs’ score made it 19-15. Flomaton scored four straight points to tie the game at 19, before NHS scored six straight, including a Hall ace, to win it.
NHS also beat Pleasant Home in three sets, 25-8, 21-25 and 15-7. Clayton scored six kills and five digs in the win, while Towson had 11 assists and six digs.
The junior varsity team lost both matches. They lost 24-26, 25-22, 10-15 to Flomaton and 7-25, 8-25 to Pleasant Home.
The tri-match raised $5,000 for breast cancer awareness.
