A stolen .22-caliber gun prompted the lockdown of both a high school and a day care Wednesday morning in Flomaton.

School officials quickly secured the campus of Flomaton High School at approximately 9 a.m. as law enforcement officials from all over the county swarmed to the area, after a man allegedly stole a gun from the vehicle of Buckshots Tire Center owner Chris Walther. A nearby day care at First Bapitst Church was also on lockdown during the incident.

According to officials with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department, 18-year-old Kedarius Dailey was arrested on Palafox Street shortly after the incident, but was not in possession of the gun. Palafox Street is only a few blocks from the FHS campus.After an extended search involving officers from the Flomaton Police Department, Atmore Police Department, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department and a K9 unit from Century Correctional Facility, the weapon was recovered on Titi Street, just a short distance from Flomaton High School.

Sheriff’s department officials said Dailey is facing several charges, including breaking and entering a vehicle, attempting to elude and first-degree theft of property.

Dailey was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
