The teams of Ronnie and Tyler Brown as well as Jerry Ordis and Deno Rolin may have won the competition, but the Atmore Lions Club was the real winner Thursday during its annual golf tournament at Atmore County Club.

The tournament, which is the organization’s only fundraiser of the year brought in close to $5,000, said organizer Chapman Maxwell.

The Browns had the low gross score of 57, while Rolin and Ordis had the low net score with handicap included at 55 on the 72-par, 18-hole course. The winning teams were awarded $300 each.

Tommy White won the cash shootout held after the tournament.

The tournament had its largest draw with 38 golfers and 19 teams.

“It was very successful,” Maxwell said. “We had more golfers than we’ve ever had.”

The tournament also benefited from 22 hole sponsors and six corporate sponsors, including: First National Bank & Trust, United Bank, Diamond Oil, Creek Indians Enterprises, Wind Creek hotel and casino and Smith Tractor.

Maxwell said the proceeds raised from the tournament will be used in the local community.
