Three out of four Northwest Escambia Eagles’ teams have advanced to the Escambia River Conference championship, following wins Saturday.

The undefeated sophomore team remained perfect after a 40-6 thrashing of the Baker Gators at Ernest Ward Middle School in Walnut Hill.

Arquavian Smith scored on two long touchdown runs. T.J. Wright added a touchdown and Kaden Odom had two touchdowns and two extra points.

Nolin Godwin and Darnius Wesley each had an extra point.

Odom made several key tackles and had one interception, which he ran back for a score. Cooper Marinez picked up a sack and made several tackles. Wesley ran down a Baker runner at the 1-yard line to save a touchdown.

The defense played a great game, recovering two fumbles, making several stops in the backfield and shutting down Baker’s offense on several key plays.

The sophomores travel to Jay High School to take on Poarch in the championship game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

The NWE junior team shut out W.S. Neal, 49-0, on Saturday.

Jayden Jackson, Jaheem Durant and Dariontae Richardson all had multiple touchdowns for the Eagles. Michael Merchant and Jaden Cunningham both scored a touchdown each and multiple extra points.

The junior defense played a tough game. Durant recovered two fumbles and Ki-Jauna Carter recovered one.

Da’Marion Findley, Merchant and Richardson all made stops in the backfield. Jackson stripped the ball from a Neal player late in the game and returned it 40 yards for a score. Jackson and Durant both ran for more than 100 yards in the win.

The juniors will take on Jay at 4 p.m.

The senior Eagles took care of Jay in a 33-0 shutout Saturday.

Aunterio Minor scored two rushing touchdowns, while Trent Kite scored one. Cameron Cloud threw a touchdown pass to Seth KIllam, while Killam added a 25-yard field goal.

Including this game, the seniors have shut out opponents six times this season. They will take on Flomaton on Saturday at 6 p.m. for the championship.
