Bobby James Leon Gibson

“Bobby” James Leon Gibson, 71, a lifelong resident of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away on Sun., Sept. 13, 2015 in Mobile.

He was a retired electrician, born on Dec. 28, 1943, in Pensacola, Fla., to the late Jack and Lois Agerton Gibson. He was a proud and active tribal member of The Poarch Band of Creek Indians, also loved fishing, gardening and woodworking.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Gibson.

Survivors are two sons, Donnie (Katie) Gibson and Tommy Gibson, all of Atmore; one daughter, Sandra Gibson (Jay) Chimento of Mobile; one sister, Joan Gibson of Walnut Hill; grandchildren, Ashley (Bo) McCall, Rebecca Gibson, Joey (Michelle) Mizell, Melissa (Quinn) Nichols, Savanah Chimento, Meagan Chimento, Joseph Chimento and Sarah Gibson; great-grandchildren, Landon Robertson, B.J.McCall, Zoey Gayle Mizell, Laiken Nichols, Madi Claire Nichols and Isabella Chimento; nephew, LeVan (Jennifer) Trull; aunt and uncle, Edward and Ann Agerton; cousins, James, Gene, and Robert Agerton; and many, many aunts, uncles and cousins from our Gibson Family.

Services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Thurs., Sept. 17, 2015, from the Walnut Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ted Bridges officiating. Interment followed in the Walnut Hill Baptist Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers were James Agerton, Gene Agerton, Robert Agerton, Little John Davis, Byron Vaughn and Tim Rexroads. Honorary was Benny Ikner.

Family received friends on Sept. 17 at the Walnut Hill Baptist Church until service time.

Chad Harvey Phillips

Mr. Chad Harvey Phillips, 39, passed away on Sept. 14, 2015, from an apparent massive heart attack.

He was a native of Atmore and worked for Southland Instrument Services for several years. He was an outstanding athlete and alumni of the Class of 1995 at Escambia Academy. An avid fisherman, Chad loved sports of all kinds, especially his Alabama football. Always with a smile on his face, Chad was full of life and a joy to be around. He always had a story to tell, and kept his family and friends entertained with his wit and that unforgettable smile. He enjoyed every day as if it were to be his last.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willian Harvey (Bill) Phillips; grandparents, Harvey L. and Mildred Phillips; and Odell Donaldson.

He is survived by the love of his life, Rebecca (Becky) Harper; mother, Peggy D. Phillips; two brothers, Sheldon (Casey) Phillips and Brandon (Marsha) Phillips; one sister, Chaselyn K. Phillips; grandmother, Joan S. Donaldson; mother-in-law, Mary Ann (Anthony) Black; father-in-law, Rod (Mary) Harper; brothers-in-law, Rocky (Kim) Harper, Matt (Jordan) Barnett, Kevin Barnett and Ben (Courtney) Black; sister-in-law, Celeste (Dennis) McCall; nephews, Brodie and Brayden Phillips, Garrett Harper, Landon and Luke Barnett; nieces, Zoie Phillips, Kendall Harper, Rachel and Emmalyn Black and Grayson McCall; along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 17, at 3:30 p.m. from Johnson Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Phillip Chance and the Rev. Diane Everette officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Deacon Jerry E. Johnson

Deacon Jerry E. Johnson, 88, a resident of Atmore, passed away on Sept. 11, 2015, at his residence.

He was a faithful and longtime member and deacon of the Lighthouse Apostolic Holiness Church of Atmore.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sister Alice Johnson; two sons, Mr. Donald (Arlene) Johnson and Mr. Anthony Johnson; his parents, Mr. Madison and Mrs. Willie Johnson; six brothers, Edsin, Elbert, Caldwell, Robert, Matthew and Madison Sr.; and one sister, Mrs. Janella Johnson.

He leaves to mourn one daughter, Ms. Alice Buie and her children, Denise, Eugene Jr. and Adrian; one son, Mr. Jerry E. (Ojetta) Johnson Jr. and their children, Jerry III, Hakim, Rahsh and Maxine; grandchildren by his deceased sons, Donald, Tonya, Donald and Anthony: Tiffany, Amirah and Malcolm; one sister in law, Ulene Johnson; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one special friend, Mrs. Mildred Sims; and a host of other relatives, friends, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Fri., Sept. 25, 2015, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. from the Chapel of Mayberry Funeral Home. Services will be held on Sat., Sept. 26, 2015, at 1 p.m. from the Lighthouse Apostolic Holiness Church with Apostle Robert Grissett serving as eulogist. Interment will be held in Fairview Cemetery. Mayberry Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

 

Frank Earl Jones

Frank Earl Jones, 87, died suddenly at his home on Sept. 17, 2015. He graduated from Auburn University on Dec. 16, 1950, in forestry. Frank was an avid (and vocal) tennis player, excelled in football while attending T.R. Miller High School in Brewton and Auburn University (Alabama Polytechnic Institute). He married his college sweetheart, Joanna Deer, on Dec. 23, 1950 and began work with Gulf States Paper Co.

In 1952, he moved to Eutaw and then moved to Demopolis in 1962. After retiring from Gulf States, he moved home to Brewton in 1977 to work with T.R. Miller Mill Co. In 1989, he was inducted into the Alabama Foresters’ Hall of Fame. The honor scroll is located in the School of Forestry building on the campus of Auburn University. Frank retired in 1994 as vice president and woodlands manager at T.R. Miller Mill Co./Cedar Creek. He is a former member of the Forester’s Licensing Board and a registered forester, Alabama license No. 66.

Survivors include three daughters, Anna Ashley Jones Slatton (Michael), Joanna Deer Jones Nichol (Ron) and Sarah Curtis “Sally” Jones Livingston (David); four grandchildren, Elizabeth Marlowe Wright, Caroline McKenzie Livingston, Edward Rippetoe “Rip” Livingston and Austin Frazier Nichol; and a great-grandson, Carson Daniel Wright.

Memorials may be made to the Brewton Library or the First United Methodist Church of Brewton.

Graveside services will be held today, Wed., Sept. 23, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Union Cemetery with the Rev. Anthony McCullough officiating.

Jerridine Stevens Perryman

Ms. Jerridine Stevens Perryman, 65, of Atmore (Freemanville Community) answered the Master’s call on Wed., Sept. 16, 2015, at her residence.

She was native of Stockton and graduate of Trinity Garden High School in Mobile in 1968. She worked for Standard Furniture for many years. She owned JP Printing. In her leisure, she enjoyed cooking and fishing. Her favorite sports teams were the Chicago Red Sox and LSU Tigers.

She is survived by her daughter, Loretta Thames of Atmore; grandson whom she reared as a son, Maurtez Stevens of Bay Minette; one sister, Quinzella Joseph of Chicago, Ill.; three brothers, (her twin) Augustine Stevens of Stockton, Collins Stevens of Montery, Calif. and Douglas Joseph of Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren

Funeral services were held on Sat, Sept. 19, 2015 at Zion Fountain AME Zion Church in Stockton with the Rev. Willie J. Smith serving as eulogist and the Rev. Sanford Davis as host pastor. Inhumation was in Robinson Cemetery in Stockton with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC. directing.

 

Julius Franklin Raybon

Julius Franklin Raybon, 67, of Atmore, passed away on Wed., Sept. 16, 2015, at his residence.

He was a Truck Driver born in Escambia County on April 1, 1948, to the late Samuel and Agnes Dean Raybon.

Survivors are one son, Jeremy (Tammy) Raybon of Excel; one daughter, Regina L.

(Ken) Stabler of Huxford; one brother, Jimmy Raybon of Thomasville; two sisters, Melbus Roberts and Bobbie Pearson, both of Poarch; two grandchildren, Sydney Raybon and Mayci Stabler; lifelong friend, Charles Steadham of Mccullough; and a special niece, Rhonda Rayborn of Atmore.

Services were held on Sat., Sept. 19, 2015, from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home

Chapel with Bro. Walter Rolin officiating. Interment followed in Steadham Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Michael Hyatt, Kelly Bryant, Johnny Mack Steadham, Jimmy Weaver, Kevin Watson and Robbie House. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Steadham, Rusty Wilson, Luke Moore and John Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Family.

Norma Linda

Weaver Blake

Norma Linda Weaver Blake, 79, was a native of Escambia County, former resident of Birmingham and has resided in Booneville for the past 20 years.

She was a member of Booneville Baptist Church, she was the treasurer of the auxilliary at Atmore Community Hospital and also a member of the Red Hat Club.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Talmadge Blake; mother and father, Aubrey and Doris Weaver; brothers, Winston Weaver, Larry Weaver and Ronald Weaver.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen Blake (Paul Shellman) of Charlotte, N.C.; five brothers, Aubrey Weaver, Jr. of Clarksville, Ga., Doug (Shirley) Weaver of Booneville and Donald (Ernestine) Weaver of Clayton, Dick (Vonda) Weaver of Booneville and Pat (Catherine) Weaver of Sitka, Ark.; and two grandchildren, Megan and Danielle Shellman. She was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held for Mrs. Blake on Sun., Sept. 6, 2015, at Booneville Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Wood officiating.
