Representatives from 25-member Tribes of the United South and Eastern Tribes and guests will tee off this weekend in a charity golf tournament at Timber Creek Golf Club during the USET 2010 semi-annual meeting.

The tournament, which is being sponsored by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians is a two-person scramble.

Registration for the tournament begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The fee for playing is $100 per person and includes one round of golf, a cart, range balls, BBQ lunch and prizes and awards.

Jennifer Chism, marketing manager for the Creek Indian Enterprise Development Authority, said the tournament is a fundraiser for a scholarship fund.

“This is a way for us to raise funds for the USET scholarship fund, which gives scholarship money to students that are a part of the 25-member Tribes,” Chism said.

As of now, the tournament has 42 two-man teams signed on to play with more expected to join.

Funds raised so far for the fund are already in excess of $20,000.

Chism said things are already successful and more money is expected to be raised.

“We have raised $25,000 at this point for the scholarship fund,” Chism said. “I see that number growing because we are still selling mulligans as well as raffle tickets, which will also go to the fund.”

Incentives for guests to join the tournament include the numerous prizes that will be given away.

There will be prizes for the longest drive, closest to the pin, longest putt as well as for first, second, third and last place finishes in the tournament.
