Leon Coleman Jr.

Mr. Leon Coleman Jr., 78, of Perdido, died on Mon., Feb. 15, 2016, in his home.

Coleman was born on Oct. 17, 1937, to Leon and Eva Morris Coleman in Perdido. He attended Free-Will Baptist Church and Perdido School. He was a farmer and worked with cows, horses, goats, hogs, hay crops and in cornfields.

He was known for helping folks throughout the community and surrounding areas. He was always willing to have a “benefit” at the Coleman barn. If you were ever hungry, all you had to do was go to the barn — they would have something cooked. His tradition at the Thanksgiving community dinner was to serve hog chitterlings, turnips, beans — you name it, he served it.

He started Po-Foks Hunting Club with the motto, “Hunt Where the Season Never Ends.” He hosted several bird hunts throughout the years for his doctor friends.

Jr. was known as the “Mayor of Perdido” and also served as a constable. He never met a stranger, was always friendly and more than willing to give you a sample or two of his homemade wine.

“Jr. Coleman had a heart of gold.” Each person that visited during his last days had a story to tell, whether of kind deeds, needs met or help given, we could write a book.

We know everyone is wondering. Did Jr. make things right with God? He did. So, watch out for that little white truck in heaven.
