Hazel Ruth McGhee Brice

Hazel Ruth McGhee Brice, 75, of Atmore, passed away Wed., June 15, 2016, in Mobile. She was a retired registered nurse, born in Poarch on Aug. 22, 1940, to the late Mace and Elba “Coot” Presley McGhee.

She was a member of the Poarch Creek Indians, and was also one of first Native Americans to graduate from the University of Alabama. She served several years on the Board of Church and Society for the United Methodist Church, which services Native American and Indigenous families worldwide.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James A. Brice II; one sister, Evona Menzel; a nephew, Keith Allen McGhee; a niece, Karen Menzel; and a step-son, James A. Brice III.

Survivors are one son, Russel (Jeanette) McGhee; two daughters, Stephanie Brice (Thomas) Rolin and Jaime Brice McGhee, all of Atmore; three step-children, Heather Steigerwald and Holley Brice, both of Foley, and Peri Hopkins of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Mace McGhee Jr. of Samish Island, Wash.; four sisters, Betty (Jimmy) Caraway, Clara (Kenny Ray) Jones, all of Atmore, Karen (Jeff) Findley of Everett, Wash. and Kim (Jimmy) Flowers of Atmore; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. An additional noted survivor is Doyle Coleman, who was a special friend and caregiver.

Services were held Mon., June 20, 2016, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dianne Everette officiating with Mace McGhee Jr. speaking. Interment followed in New Home Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Corey Flowers, Trent Flowers, Shane Caraway, Mark Spurill, Frankie Jones and Justin McGhee.

Family received friends, Sun., June 19, 2016, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Eunice Adell Bray Dannelley

Eunice Adell Bray Dannelley, 93, passed away on Sun., June 19, 2016, in Pensacola, Fla.

She was born in Baldwin County on Oct. 20, 1922, to the late Joseph C. and Nita Wilson Bray. She was a lifelong resident of McCullough. She was a member of Judson Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who loved cooking and was an accomplished seamstress, which she enjoyed until her eyesight failed.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William Earl Dannelley; her sister, Helen Bray Kirrcharr; and three brothers, Harold Bray, Joe Bray and Derhyl Bray.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Lanell Bryan of Pensacola; two sons, Edsel Dannelley of Bay Minette and Allan Dannelley of Cartersville, Ga.; her granddaughters, Karen Bryan Bowman (Eddie) of Daphne and Kathryn Bryan of Pensacola; her grandsons, Keith Bryan (Merrick) of Gulf Breeze, Fla. and Jonathan Conway (Nikki) of Uriah; two brothers, Edison Bray (Asdghig) of Bellaire, Texas and Aubrey Bray (Cathy) of LaPorte, Texas; six great-grandchildren and two special nieces, Amanda Bray Cook and Marian Bray Fisher.

Services will be held at Judson Baptist Church tomorrow, Thurs., June 23, 2016, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at McCullough Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at Judson Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Hilbert Hall, Jimmy Woods, Earl Weaver, William Kirby, Chris Terry and Randy Watley.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Judson Baptist Church.

Floyd Lester Johnson

Mr. Floyd Lester Johnson, 85, passed away on Fri., June 17, 2016, in Shreveport, La.

Johnson was a native of Whitehouse Fork, Ala., former resident of Clanton and has resided in Shreveport, La. for the past 10 years. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the Korean War, retired machinist with the Federal Government-NASA Program.

He is preceded in death by a son, Lester Raymond “Butch” Johnson; mother of his children, Barbara Ballinger Johnson; two sisters, Ernestine Rowlan and Helen Whatley; and four brothers, Lonzo, George, Carl and Curtis Johnson.

He is survived by his two daughters, Regina (Bob) Lowry of Blanchard, La. and Tonya (Michael) Holley of Clanton; one brother, Lorenzo Johnson of Crossroads; one sister, Maxine Bowen of Crossroads; eight grandchildren, Shelly (David) Feaster of Bossier City, La., Brian Donald of Shreveport, La., Kristy Zackary of Alexandria, La., Jonathan (Courtney) Lowry of Shreveport, La., Sheri Spikes of Blanchard, La., Christopher (Donna) Chamness of Winston-Salem, N.C., Christina (Shane) Gros of Saraland and Jeremy (Dana) Chamness of Fairhope; and 17 great grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sun., June 19, 2016, from the Johnson Cemetery with Sis. Helen Stewart officiating.

Berman Franklin Leonard Jr.

Mr. Berman Franklin Leonard Jr., 56, passed away on Tues., June 14, 2016, in Milton, Fla.

Mr. Leonard was a native and former resident of Atmore and has resided in Milton, Fla. for the past year.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Carrie Leonard and his grandparents.

He is survived by his two brothers, Steve (B.B) Leonard of Century, Fla. and Mike Leonard of Century; one sister, Regina (Jeff) Ogden of Pace, Fla.; one aunt, Lucille Sells of Atmore; two nephews, Curtis Ogden of Pace, Fla. and Rocky Hadley of Perdido; and one niece, Stacey and Blake of Pace, Fla.

Funeral services were held Sat., June 18, 2016, from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Ward officiating.

Burial followed at the Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Visitation was held June 18 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Chuck Gainy, Tyler Hobbs, Johnny Nance, David Zornes, Billy Bennett and Gary Valasquez.

Aaron Louis Steele

Aaron Louis Steele, 85, of Pensacola, Fla., passed away on Thurs., June 16, 2016, in Pensacola, Fla.

He graduated from Ernest Ward High School. He retired from Southern Bell, AT&T, and was born in Oak Grove, Fla. on Aug.14, 1930, to the late Alex and Elizabeth Greer Steele.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Marshall (Elise) Steele, Raymond (Ruby) Steele, Amond (Mary) Steele, Edward Steele and Roger (Jean) Steele.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn Steele; one son, Floyd Glen (Vicky) Steele; granddaughter, Sarah (Joshua) Price; two step-granddaughters, Michelle (Phillip) Salzman and Charity (Peter) Zierten; one daughter, Sandra (Steve) Ryland; granddaughter, Brandi (Jesse) Barefield; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Laverne Passmore; five brothers, Juber (Ethel) Steele, Cleveland (Ann) Steele, Artis (Syble) Steele, Onoree (Brenda) Steele, Bennie (Eloise) Steele; one sister in law, Frances; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Mon., June 20, 2016, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Heard serving as officiant. Family received friends June 20, at Johnson-Quimby from 2 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m.
