Almie Ervin Smith

Mr. Almie Ervin Smith, 75, passed away on Sat., Dec. 10, 2016, in Atmore.

He was a native and former resident of Uriah and has resided in Atmore most of his life. He was the owner and operator of Atmore Amusement. He was a member of the Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Anderson Smith and Amelia Smith.

He is survived his wife, Karen Smith of Atmore; two daughters, Sonya and Rob Ellis of Atmore and Brenda Smith of Fairhope; two step-sons, Michael Johnson of Muncie, Ind. and Jeremie (Holly) Johnson of Rabun; one brother, Alvin (Judy) Smith of Gulf Shores; one sister, Ila Jeter of Monroeville; one granddaughter, Rachel (Rob) Lindell; one great-granddaughter, Harper Reese Lindell; 10 step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Dec. 13, 2016 from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Johnson officiating.

Burial followed at the Perdido Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation was held Dec. 13, 2016 from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Mickey Carter, Gary Chong, Benjie Dunlap, Rob Ellis, Jeremie Johnson and Rob Lindell.

Cora Frances Brantley

Mrs. Cora Frances Brantley, 70, of Uriah, passed away on Sun., Dec.11, 2016, at Monroe County Hospital.

She was born in Pensacola, Fla., and had lived most of her life in Monroe County. She was a member of McCullough Christian Center. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse with Monroe County Hospital for many years. She worked mainly in the nursery and loved those babies.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Emory Cleveland Blackwell and Merlene Godwin Blackwell Morris; her husband, Billy Brantley Sr.; her brother, Douglas Blackwell; and her sister, Debbie Griffin.

Survivors include one son, Billy Brantley and wife, Sara of Hattiesburg, Miss.; one daughter, Lacey Daw and husband, Timmy of Atmore; one brother, David Blackwell of Austin, Texas; one sister, Sandra Hancock of Uriah; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be today, Wed., Dec. 14, 2016 at 11 a.m., from McCullough Christian Center with Pastor Cornelius Phillips and Pastor Don McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Uriah Cemetery.

Visitation was held Dec. 13, 2016 at the funeral home.

David Earl Johnson

Mr. David Earl Johnson, 57, of Atmore, exchanged his earthly home for his heavenly mansion on Sat., Dec. 10, 2016, at Mobile Infirmary.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he had been a resident of Atmore for many years. He was educated in the New York public schools system. He had worked as a loader for Standard Furniture Company in Bay Minette. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, watching football and listening to music.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Johnson.
Those left to cherish his life and legacy are his wife, Janice Carolyn Knight-Johnson of Atmore; his son, Devon Rucker of Atmore; his mother, Evell Johnson of Atmore; two stepdaughters, Linda Traywick of Crestview, Fla. and Doris Dailey of Foley; five brothers, Kelvin Johnson, Gregg Johnson, Shawn Johnson and Steven Brown, all of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Carleton Johnson of Atmore; and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held this Sat., Dec. 17, 2016, at 2 p.m. from Longmire-Jones Memorial Chapel of Turner Funeral Chapel with Bishop Willie L. Williams, pastor of Jones Street True Pentecostal Holiness Church-Atmore, officiating. Inhumation will be in Stallworth Cemetery. Public viewing will be held Fri., Dec. 16, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until funeral service time at the funeral home with Turner Funeral Chapel LLC directing.

Devin “Lil Man” Morrow

Mr. Devin “Lil Man” Morrow, 21, passed away on Thurs., Dec. 8, 2016, in Mobile.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore. He enjoyed working out in the gym and was an avid four-wheeler rider.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, J.W. Milstid, Linne Presley Hayes, Bill Hayes, Carol King and Willie Earl Morrow; two uncles, William Carl Adams and Michael Wayne Adams; and one aunt, Peggy Davis.

He is survived by his father, Tommy (Renee Scott) Morrow of Poarch; mother, Michelle Milstid of Perdido; two brothers, Joshua Milstid of Atmore and Dustin Morrow of Atmore; one sister, Alexis Ellis of Perdido; grandparents, Margaret Milstid of Atmore and Ruby Welch of Poarch; three uncles, David Adams of Atmore, Mark Morrow of Atmore and John Morrow of Atmore; six aunts, Brenda Stephens of Uriah, Linda Weaver of Perdido, Linda Hall of Monroeville, Deborah Helton of Atmore, Brenda Morrow of Atmore and Alice Morrow of Atmore; and numerous cousins, family and friends.

Funeral services were held Dec. 11, 2016 from Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Sister Helen Stewart officiating.

Burial followed at the Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Visitation was held Dec. 10-11 at the Friendly Holiness Church.

Pallbearers were Gavin Williams, Dagan Homan, Kyler McGlothren, Nate Scott, Blake Cale, Adam Kelley, Deven Johnson and Cody Rigby.

Laura Jo Dailey Hataway

Laura Jo Dailey Hataway, 83, passed away peacefully Fri., Dec. 9, 2016.

She was born on May 24, 1933, in Pollard to Birdie Fuller and James Marvin Dailey II. She was also the granddaughter of Laura Kelly and James Marvin Dailey.

She is preceded in death by a brother, James Marvin Dailey III; and a sister, Anne Hale Brown.
Known for her sweet disposition and southern accent, Laura lived at Cedarhurst of Shiloh in Illinois. She enjoyed getting to know fellow residents, playing bingo and participating in seasonal activities. She was a prayerful woman, who loved the Lord with all her heart. She was married for 64 years to Wilton T. “Moose” Hataway, who passed away in June 2015.

The two met in high school and lived in married student housing at Auburn University. When Moose joined the U.S. Air Force as a civilian engineer, they would spend the next 47 years on assignments at various bases. They had seven children.

Laura loved to sew, to read and to cook, making everything from scratch, even salad dressing.
She is survived by sons, George (Debbie) Hataway of Gulfport, Miss., Joel (Susan) Hataway of Lee’s Summit, Mo. and John (Aisha) Hataway of Shiloh; daughters, Laura Anne (Joe) Smith of Bowling Green, Mo., Leah (Bill) Gleason of Elmhurst, Ill., Linda (Dan) Findley of Destin, Fla. and Lisé Hataway of Windermere, Fla.; as well as grandchildren Jacob, Bella and Maya Hataway; Jaime, Lucie and Alan Gleason, Allison Hataway, Andrew Hataway, Katherine (Nick) Becchina, Wesley Shumack, Jennifer (Jason) Weber and Cassie Zingery; as well as sister, Carolyn Watson (Joey) Liles of Pensacola, Fla.; and sister in law, Sue Richards Dailey of Fairhope.
Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m. on Fri., Dec. 16, 2016, at Pollard Methodist Church in Pollard followed by burial at Hillcrest Cemetery with the Rev. Tony McCullough officiating. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of choice.

Melba Faye Quinley

Mrs. Melba Faye Quinley, 73, passed away on Tues., Dec. 6, 2016, in Pensacola, Fla.

She was a native of Century, Fla., and has resided in Flomaton for the past 40 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a loving-giving friend to all. She was a member of the Beulah Chapel Assembly of God.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Lyman Quinley of Flomaton; two sons, Tony (Sheron) Nall of Milton, Fla. and Gary (Carmen) Nall of Opelousas, La.; one daughter, Cathy (Duane) Bond of Century; one sister, Marie Johnson of Hattiesburg, Miss.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Dec. 10, 2016 from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Hawsey officiating.

Visitation was held Dec. 10 from the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
